The primary responsibility of this position is to design, plan, monitor and/or steer horizontal wellbores in the Midland Basin. Requires coordination between multiple departments. Responsible for communicating during the drilling phase to and from the well site, and between other parties such as intercompany personnel, partners and subcontractor operations teams.

Major Functions and Scope:

  • Integrate basin history, petroleum systems, sequence stratigraphic, seismic, petrophysical and unconventional reservoir concepts and workflows
  • Make recommendations based on integrated maps, cross sections, and other geological displays
  • Present and recommend to management regarding data collection and multi-well horizontal pad development
  • Rapidly integrate results from previous (operated and competitor) drilling
  • Work with a team of Geologists, Reservoir and Geoscience Specialists to integrate data sets including reservoir behavior and well performance
  • Apply geomechanical models and principals to improve operational cadence
  • Meet all project schedules, deliverables and milestones as outlined in work plans
  • Assist in mentoring and on-the-job training of less experienced team members
  • Actively participate and manage data acquisition, interpretation and application


  • Master’s Degree in Geology preferred
  • Minimum four (4) years’ oil and gas Geologist experience required
  • Strong skills in Petra (or similar integrated geoscience platform) required
  • Strong skills in Geosteering
  • Strong knowledge of geomechanical principals
  • Familiarity of the Permian Basin preferred
  • Capability to work effectively with cross-discipline professionals and all levels of the team
  • Documented ability to make technically and economically sound recommendations with incomplete information.
